Cambridge Village Staff

Executive Director

Like many folks now living in this area, I am not originally from here. My dad was in the Air Force, so I grew up moving every three years. We lived in some great places, including Germany and Hawaii. I came to North Carolina to attend college at ECU on a swimming scholarship, met a native North Carolina girl and never left. We raised two children; one married, the other soon to be married. Thankfully both still live in the area.

My mother also moved to the area in 1993 and lived for 15 years at the Forest at Duke in Durham, a continuing care retirement community. It was through this experience that I came to my current career. I spent 25 years in the computer industry before taking a position as Manager of Jordan Oaks, an independent retirement community in Cary, in 2008. When The Cambridge Village project came along, I had developed some idea of what a retirement community might look like based on what worked and didn't work at the Forest at Duke and Jordan Oaks.

What makes this project so exciting is that the local ownership group, Oliver Development, was open to these ideas. Together, we are building a community that will be a place where I would want to retire, and we feel this place will be a blueprint for the next generation of retirement communities. I am confident that our residents  find the staff and management at Cambridge Village ready, willing and able to deliver a unique retirement experience.

I'm originally from South New Jersey, but grew up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, specifically in the Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills areas. My mother and father still live on the Outer Banks. I enjoy going to visit them and was married there in October of 2011. I met my wife, Jessica, while working with her at the Cedars of Chapel Hill.

I enjoy watching and attending sporting events especially NFL football and NHL hockey games. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, gardening and cooking. Most people don't know that I also lived in Pennsylvania and Maryland as well as New Jersey and North Carolina.

I came to Cambridge Village from the Cedars in Chapel Hill, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), where I was the Sous Chef since 2007. I decided to work in the (CCRC) industry because of the good benefits and convenient work hours. Working in restaurants for the bulk of my career really gave me a more rounded approach to cuisine in the CCRC setting.

I decided to further my career by reaching one of my goals of becoming an Executive Chef. Cambridge Village will give me the opportunity to showcase the full range of my skills and I look forward to the opportunity. I currently live in Cary, so Cambridge Village is a quick commute for me, so I'll spend less time driving and more time preparing great meals for our residents!

Wellness Director

Linda Barmann

Hi, my name is Linda Barmann. I am originally from Santa Cruz California. My family, husband and 2 boys moved to the Cary area in 1998. I have had the pleasure of being in the business of helping  others since 1980.  My background and education focus has been in Wellness and Psychology.

My reason for choosing this rewarding business is because of my father. He was such a happy spirited man and to see him leave us at such a young age, I realized I wanted to be in the business of helping others get the best out of life by choosing a Healthy Life Path. I feel so blessed to a part of the Cambridge Village staff and look forward to meeting all the residents here and see you in class as well.

Remember that if it is not fun you will not exercise. So please come and try out my Sing and Sit Class starting soon.

Caring for seniors and making their lives easier brings great joy to my heart. With an educational background in physical therapy and years of direct experience with seniors, I understand the key to aging gracefully. Along with a positive attitude, healthy eating habits, and the right amount of sleep, the secret to good health can be found by leading an active lifestyle. The old principle, "If you don't use it, you lose it" rings true, not only for body, but mind as well.

Over the years, I have developed an innovative program to promote graceful aging, independence, and dignity for seniors. George Bernard Shaw once wrote, "We don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing." To make life fun as we advance in our years, a wide variety of meaningful activities will be enjoyed here at the Cambridge Village of Apex and the surrounding community, including plays, concerts, museums and the wonders of nature.
