The best part is, there are plenty of chair yoga poses for seniors to choose from, such as hip flexion and backbends. In fact, many yoga poses are actually designed to include the use of a yoga chair.

2. Great for the Heart and Weight
Blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and BMI play major roles in a healthy heart and weight. The higher these are, the more at risk a person is for developing heart diseases. What’s more, the older an individual is, the more at risk they are of developing these conditions.
As such, it’s no wonder that as many as 103 million adults in the US have hypertension. On top of that is the estimated 102 million with high cholesterol levels. Obesity also affects more than four in 10 older adults aged 60 and above.
The good news is, yoga has shown to help improve all these factors. It has a significant lowering effect on systolic and diastolic blood pressure. It has also shown to reduce cholesterol levels, as well as body mass index (BMI).

Osteoporosis affects more than 10 million people in the US. It’s a condition that causes bone density loss, and older people are at a greater risk for it. As with heart conditions, the older a person gets, the thinner and more brittle the bones can become.
Women are at a higher risk than men, as they lose bone faster than men. Men, however, can still develop this condition.
Yoga, as a type of weight-bearing activity, can help fight the effects of osteoporosis. In fact, one study found that it appears to increase bone mineral density in the spine and femur.
4. Healthier Bones Mean Lower Risks of Falls and Fractures
With less bone to support the body, people who have osteoporosis are at a higher risk of falls. Since osteoporotic bones are thinner and brittle, they’re also more prone to fractures. In fact, almost nine in 10 fractures among older adults aged 65 and above are due to falls.
